Professional Home Organiser in Hertfordshire: The Real Reason Your Home Feels Overwhelming

About Me: Why I Do This Work and Who It’s For

I’m Helen, founder of Sort and Order, and I’ve been working as a professional home organiser since 2019. I’ve worked in all kinds of homes, from small cottages to large family houses, and I was part of the organising team on the first series of Sort Your Life Out. What that showed me, more than anything, is just how many people feel overwhelmed by their homes, often quietly and for a long time.

Who do professional organisers work for?

Most of the women I work with are capable, intelligent and used to managing a lot. Careers, children, relationships, and the constant mental load that never quite switches off. And somewhere along the way, the home becomes the place that slips. Not all at once, but slowly. A cupboard gets harder to close. A spare room starts holding things that don’t quite have a place. Wardrobes fill with clothes that no longer reflect how life looks now. Over time, it starts to feel heavy. This is where I come in.

When I walk into a home, I’m not looking at how it looks. I’m looking at how it works. Where daily life is happening, where things are breaking down, and what is making everything feel harder than it needs to be. My job is not to make your home look perfect. It is to make it feel manageable. We work through your home together, making decisions about what you actually need, what supports your life now, and what no longer does. From there, I create simple systems that are easy to maintain and realistic for your lifestyle. No complicated routines. No perfection. Just calm, practical order that fits around real life.

Why do people need a professional organiser?

Most clients come to me feeling some level of embarrassment. They often say they should have sorted it themselves. They tell me they’ve tried before, that they’ve moved things around, bought storage, started and stopped more times than they can count. What they usually need is not more effort. They need clarity, structure and support. And someone who can see the bigger picture without judgement. The biggest shift is not always what you see. It’s how things feel. Mornings become calmer. You stop wasting time looking for things. Rooms feel easier to be in. There’s less background noise in your mind.

How do clients feel after my visit?

Clients often say they feel lighter, as though something they’ve been carrying for a long time has finally been lifted. I work best with women who are ready for change, even if they don’t know where to start. Women who are busy, capable and perhaps a little overwhelmed. Women who don’t want perfection, but do want a home that feels calm, clear and easier to live in. I’m not the right fit for everyone. If you’re looking for a quick tidy without making decisions, or a perfectly styled home that looks good but doesn’t function for everyday life, there are other services better suited.

This work requires a level of openness, even if it feels uncomfortable at times. What you can expect from me is a calm, practical and completely non judgemental approach. I work alongside you, not take over. I help you make decisions, not force them. And I create systems that make your home feel like it works for you again.

If your home feels heavier than it should, if you are constantly thinking about what needs to be sorted, or quietly avoiding certain spaces, you are not alone. And you don’t have to manage it on your own.
