FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
This FAQ page has been designed to answer the most common questions people search for when looking for a professional organiser in Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire. The answers below reflect real client experiences, practical advice and the everyday reality of creating calm, functional homes.
A professional organiser helps people create calm, functional homes that work for real life. That can mean decluttering, creating storage systems, organising wardrobes, kitchens, playrooms, utility rooms, paperwork, garages and family spaces. At Sort and Order, the focus is not perfection or Instagram styling. It is about reducing overwhelm and helping busy families feel more relaxed and in control of their homes.
Anybody and everybody. Clients range from busy professional women and families with young children through to elderly clients living alone. Some people contact me after illness, grief, divorce, renovations or relocations. Others are simply overwhelmed, time poor and unable to finish projects alone. I work in everything from sheltered accommodation to large luxury homes across Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire.
Most clients say the biggest change is not just the appearance of the house, but how it feels to live in. Good systems reduce mental load, stop overbuying, improve routines and help the whole family function more calmly. Clients often tell me they finally feel able to relax at weekends instead of constantly battling against the house.
Yes. Many clients start with one room such as a kitchen, wardrobe, utility room or playroom before deciding whether to continue with other areas of the house. Some clients book a half day or a trial day first so they can see how the process works.
Absolutely not. In fact, I usually ask clients not to prepare. Seeing the home in real life helps me understand how the family lives, where clutter builds up and what systems are missing.
After an initial chat, clients usually send photos or short videos of the areas they would like help with. I estimate how many sessions may be needed and source suitable storage products where appropriate. On organising days, I typically work for six to seven hours. Clients can work from home while I organise, pop in and out for decisions, or leave me to independently work through the agreed priority list.
Yes. Many clients bring me in before renovations so I can help plan practical storage and realistic family systems before expensive decisions are made. I also help after renovations by resetting and organising the home so the new spaces function properly from day one.
No. Many homes I work in are beautiful homes belonging to successful, busy people. The common issue is usually overwhelm, lack of time, decision fatigue and family life becoming too busy to stay on top of.
Yes. I have extensive experience working with ADHD and autistic families and understand how important it is to create systems around the way people genuinely function rather than expecting perfection.
Sort and Order is based in Hertfordshire and regularly works across Berkhamsted, Tring, St Albans, Harpenden, Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire. Projects further afield can also be discussed.
Everything from wardrobes, kitchens and utility rooms to garages, paperwork, family entryways, playrooms, home offices and whole-house resets. I also help create systems for laundry, school bags, sports kit, paperwork and everyday family routines.
Clients often say they value the warmth, empathy and real-life understanding I bring into their homes. With over six years of experience, including work behind the scenes on the BBC Sort Your Life Out series, I have worked with a huge range of clients and situations. My approach is practical, supportive and judgement free.
Yes. Many clients book quarterly reset visits where I return to refresh systems, reorganise problem areas and help the house stay on track as family life changes.
Both. Some clients prefer to work alongside me and learn while we organise together. Others continue working or leave the house entirely while I independently transform the space.
Never. Most people wait far too long before asking for help because they feel embarrassed or overwhelmed. I have seen every kind of home and every kind of life situation. The aim is simply to help people feel calmer, lighter and more supported in their own space.
